Matas Jankauskas

Matas Jankauskas (b. 1992, Kaunas, Lithuania) is a pianist and piano teacher developing his concert and teaching activities. He began his musical education at the Juozas Naujalis Music Gymnasium in Kaunas and later continued his piano studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester (United Kingdom), where he studied with Professor Colin Stone.

Matas has taken part in a number of international piano competitions, which have formed an important part of his professional development. In 2025, he was awarded Second Prize at the 2nd International Vienna Piano Competition Wiener Klassik (Vienna, Austria). He has also participated in numerous masterclasses with distinguished pianists, including Jerome Lowenthal, Stephen Hough, Dmitri Alexeev, Andrzej Jasiński, Graham Scott, Philippe Cassard, Michel Béroff, Stefano Fiuzzi, Gabrielius Alekna, Edvinas Minkštimas, and Giuseppe Devastato.

Album: Enigmatic Melodies

As a performer, Matas gives solo recitals in various cities across Lithuania. He has also appeared in well-known venues such as the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall (New York, USA), the Gläserner Saal at the Musikverein (Vienna, Austria), the Barber Institute of Fine Arts (Birmingham, United Kingdom), and the Bösendorfersaal at Mozarteum University (Salzburg, Austria), performing as part of larger concert programmes. His repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary music, with a particular focus on works of the Romantic period and lesser-known composers of the twentieth century.

Alongside his performance activity, Matas is also engaged in piano teaching, with particular attention to online piano education. He is the founder of a private music school, Fortepijono mokykla, which connects students from different parts of the world. In his teaching, Matas seeks to develop independent musical thinking and to support each student in discovering and shaping their individual artistic voice. His students have achieved notable results in national and international piano competitions and festivals.
